Career Storytelling Toolkit
There’s no story without a character
1. SUPERHEROS AND SUPERPOWERS
If you had to create a character based on your professional self which powers would they have?
What’s the backstory? How did they acquire those powers?
Why are those important? What do they look like?
What problems do they solve?
What are their motivations?
2. WHAT’S THIS CHANGE ABOUT?
At the end of the day we need to know where we want to go and map out what we want. This canvas is to help you capture all the information you have about the change you are seeking.
This helps you understand where to look for opportunities and to get clear about what you want.
What makes them tickle?
3. HAPPINESS vs SUCCESS
Not everything that makes us successful makes us happy, or the other way around. Ideally, we want those to overlap. This canvas will help you make a distinction between them and identify what are the things that are meaningful to you and can make you successful.
Their past makes their future
4. CAREER TIMELINE
The biggest exercise of them all. This exercise is about creating a library of all of your professional experiences and mapping out all the stories. By the end of it, you will have a modular, Lego-style, library that you can use to create different positionings, tell multiple career narratives, create different CVs and prepare yourself for interviews.
What stories can they tell?
5. STORY CIRCLE
This is about bringing all of those exercises together and know how to use them to tell better career stories. You can use this structure to build portfolios and CVs, prepare for interviews, and cover letters.
